3. Is this compliant considering these are not employees?
Yes, TIE is NOT employer provided, but a benefit through the National Association of Independent Truckers (NAIT). Their membership in NAIT provides them access to these insurance plans and keeps you at arms length.
4. What is Guaranteed Issue?
The purchasing power of thousands of independent contractors nationwide allows us to offer the insurance plans guaranteed issue - so, regardless of their medical history, this coverage is guaranteed!
5. How do they enroll?
They simply call our toll-free call center at 844.385.5576, speak with a licensed benefits specialist and enroll right over the phone. The call is recorded and time/date stamped.
6. What's asked of you, the motor carrier?
Help us communicate the program to your drivers. It's the key to having a successful enrollment. With your permission, we can manage the communication and outreach. We provide flyers (for settlements), text blasts, email, social media and more. The more ways we can communicate, the better.
7. Can't my contractors just get these insurance plans on their own?
Yes...BUT, it's nearly impossible for many independent drivers due to their negative health histories. Applications for individual disability and/or life insurance ask extensive medical questions and a negative health history will typically result in an application being declined or charged a much higher premium. Conversely, our plans are guaranteed issue (see #4). We do know, drivers we've enrolled, tell us they've applied, but have been declined coverage - so having coverage offered this easy is appreciated.
8. What is the National Association of Independent Truckers (NAIT)?
Since 1981, NAIT has provided insurance programs and money saving services designed to improve the bottom line of Independent Truckers in the trucking industry throughout the U.S. and Canada. NAIT has over 16,000 members and dues are only $11/month.
9. How are premiums paid?
Premiums can be deducted directly from drivers bank account (weekly or monthly) OR premiums can be deducted from their settlements (with motor carrier approval).
